FABRIC ARTWORKS

My scrap studies are exercises in improvisational quilting, through which I work instinctively to arrange compositions of color and shape. I aim to make something special from nothing: I do not use sewing patterns and all the fabrics I use are secondhand. Though my process is intuitive, I actively borrow and am inspired by the shapes and symbols of architectural plans, elevations, and urban spaces. These studies are my way of exploring whether impromptu arrangements of colored fabric scraps can lead to something more.

ARTWORKS ON PAPER

My paper pieces grew out of a practice of play and fascination with the potential to build imaginary spaces solely with line and cut paper. The ‘Head Space’ series specifically captures places I thought up, with the building blocks derived from shapes I accumulated from drawing and everyday life. My works within the concurrent ‘Parking Space’ collection came about through my wondering of what shapes might emerge by placing (or “parking”) drawn shapes into flat space.
